A recent study published in the journal of the American College of Cardiology shows that women with depression have an increased risk of cardiovascular events. According to researchers, women affected by depression are more likely to combine the cardiovascular risk factors such as smoking, hypertension or high cholesterol. But this study of 469 women and 63 for over 8 years has shown that depression is more severe, the more anti-depressants prescribed, the greater these women are at high risk of a cardiovascular accident. Does this correlation reveals a new link between antidepressants and cardiac? Or is it the intensity of depression that affects more or less the cardiovascular system? That's what researchers are now trying to determine.
