Independent of the settings in the folder options, extensions of certain file types will usually not be displayed. You can however remove this restriction. For this, click ‘Start | Run’, enter ‘regedit’ and click on ‘OK’. In the editor, click to the left at the start of the structure on ‘My Computer’ and then select ‘Edit | Find’. Enter the term ‘Never ShowExt’ and click on ‘Find next’. No ‘Value’ is allocated to this character sequence. When adjusting this option, you must thus delete it completely with ‘Edit | Delete’. Confirm the safety query with ‘Yes’. Now press the ‘[F3]’ key to continue searching through the registry. In this way, delete all entries with the name ‘Never ShowExt’ in the registry main branch ‘HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT’. Do not edit any other branches.
Caution: Before deleting, right click on it and click on ‘Export’ to create a copy of the respective key. You can thus double click on it and re-paste it in the registry at any time.
Note: If you want to modify only certain entries, you will find the settings for the important hidden file types ‘.url’, ‘.lnk’ and ‘.scf’ in the branch ‘HKEY_CLASSES_ ROOT’ under the key ‘InternetShortcut’, ‘Inkfile’ and ‘SHCmdFile’.
